Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

October 14, 2008

Present: Kay Harper, Julie Duke, Bonnie Bolster Sue Ammeter, Marion Huxtable, Lynn Gressley, Liz Roca

The minutes from the September Board meeting were approved.

Public Access

Lynn reported that Dave Peterson from City Staff said that the signs designating a speed limit on the Larry Scott Trail are being taken down to be replaced with language which will meet City code. No time line for the replacement was given

Lynn also reported that he a Pat attended a meeting of the General Services Committee of the City Council which focused on enforcement and signage for the recently passed Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Ordinance. The Police Department acknowledged that enforcement of the Ordinance would be pursued in a vigorous manner. Signage for the newly designated bicycle free zones has not yet been chosen but the general opinion of those in attendance was that the signs should be explicit but positive.

Because of the accident which took place on the Larry Scott Trail, the issue of lights on bicycles as a matter of law was discussed. Lynn agreed to contact Kevin Vandewege to pursue amending State Law to require lights on bicycles not only on streets but sidewalks and multi-use trails.

When DASH met with the MSers the issue of the inaccessibility of the crossing lights at Fir and F Street was brought up. The Access Committee will investigate this situation and make any recommendations to City Public Works.
