Board of Directors Meeting MinutesTuesday, August 11, 2009 Present: Pat Teal, Julie Duke, Marion Huxtable, Bonnie Bolster, Lynn Gressley Acceptance of MinutesThe minutes of the July meeting were approved with the modification that Clallam County Housing Authority is assuming responsibility for Section 8 not all Housing Authority programs in Jefferson County. Public AccessMarion presented an overview of the proposed Smart Trips program for Jefferson County. This program would essentially encourage and coordinate a public/private partnership to develop alternate forms of transportation to the single-occupancy vehicle. Representatives from the City, County and Jefferson Transit have accepted a proposal of the Transportation Lab and have recommended that the State DOT include it in the Highway 19/20 Corridor Plan. The issue is that changes such as Smart Trips, sidewalks, crosswalks and bus pullouts which would affect people with disabilities as well as many others in the community were not rated in the first edition of the WASHDOT recommendations. Items that did appear as ranked for importance were all motor vehicle related. Pat encouraged members to attend the next meeting of the Non-Motorized Transportation Board to comment on the ranking of proposed projects in the Update to the NMTB Plan. Many of the projects involve improvements to sidewalks, and crosswalks which would improve mobility for people with disabilities. The meeting is Sept. 3 at 4:30 in the First Floor conference Room at City Hall. Treasury/FundraisingJulie reported that the current fund balance is $2656.23. Outside CommitteePat reported that the sidewalk café ordinance passed with inclusion of requirements that businesses meet ADA standards and train employees to maintain the standards. Members of Council referred to DASH as one of the other entities which would help in monitoring compliance. The Board has decided to take a proactive approach in monitoring potential problem areas like Taylor Street. We realize that City enforcement is crucial and we are willing to help in any way we can. Marion agreed that she would deliver a new supply of Restaurant Brochures to the Visitors’ Center since they had requested a new supply. The Board unanimously agreed to offer the DASH computer equipment to the Jefferson County Domestic Violence Agency. Lynn will attempt to secure the Card Room at the Community Center on the first Tuesday for our regular Board meetings in order to accommodate Kaheya. The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 pm. Next meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, Noon to 2:00. |
