Board of Directors Meeting MinutesJuly 8, 2008 Present: Guest, Roy Walker, Pat Teal, Julie Duke, Kay Harper, Kaheya Cunningham, Bonnie Bolster, Marion Huxtable, Lynn Gressley Minutes of theJune meeting were approved. Roy Walker, Executive Director of the Olympic Area Agency on Aging gave the Board an overview of the programs and services of O3A which target people with disabilities primarily over the age of 60. However, a significant portion of the Federal and State funding which is administered by O3A is used for such things as care-giver support for adults of any age. Roy said that the philosophy of O3A is to utilize limited existing funds to encourage self advocacy for not only seniors but people with disabilities in a time when the gap between available resources and an aging population is growing wider. The Board expressed its appreciation for O3a’s provision of in kind services to DASH in the form of printing brochures. Public AccessThe Board discussed making an official DASH recommendation to the City Council on the issue of the pending Ordinance revision dealing with pedestrian safety and bicycles on sidewalks. Marion agreed to draft our position for Board review by email. Pat agreed to contact the Port of Port Townsend to find out how DASH can be kept informed about the five year planning process which has been undertaken and is designed to include community participation. Marion said that she will continue to explore involvement with the Department of Transportation’s Working Group which will make recommendations on the development of a Highway 19/20 Corridor Plan. New BusinessThe Board unanimously approved the Bylaws Amendment clarifying terms of service of Officers. The Board re-elected Lynn Gressley, President; Pat Teal, Vice President; and Julie Duke, Treasurer for new two year terms.
