DASH Project Board Meeting NotesJune 12, 2007First Federal Savings and LoanPresent: Pat Teal, Julie Duke, Kay Harper, Sue Ammeter, Nancy Obert, Kaheya Cunningham, Susan Kinne, Lynn Gressley Committee ReportsPublic Access committeeAlan Sartin, Jefferson County ADA Coordinator, was unable to attend the last Committee meeting, the plan is to invite him to the next Board meeting to discuss specific physical access barriers at the Court House and Memorial Field. Regarding emergency preparedness for people with disabilities, the Committee reviewed the County’s list of points of refuge and found that the information is incomplete as of October 2006. Sue said that she will contact the County to find out if the information has been updated and to find out which agency, the County or Red Cross, is responsible for overseeing these sites. The Committee still plans to conduct on-site visits to evaluate accessibility. DASH Restaurant Brochures are being distributed and several Board members agreed to take them to other locations. Lynn reminded the Board that the brochure is on the web site in accessible form. On July 7 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Port Townsend Community Center DASH will have a table at the Health Fair sponsored by Olycap. We plan to distribute information and offer a mini disability for a day experience. Scheduled participation: Lynn and Kay 10:00 – 12:00 Lynn will contact Juanita and Bonnie to see if they are willing to participate. Education CommitteeNancy reported that she and Leslie have not yet been able to find a venue for a presentation in June. A community meeting will be held on Thursday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Blue Herron school to discuss school district facility upgrades. Since the general community frequently uses school facilities and the District may need to accommodate a student with a disability, DASH will stay current with plans that the District makes. Outside CommitteesGovernor’s CommitteeKaheya reported that she is providing information about Dash’s activities at every opportunity. O3A Advisory CommitteeKaheya said that the Committee has finished distributing its Elder Friendly Community survey in the region covered by O3A. Apparently the survey is designed to assist in planning for service delivery. Non-Motorized CommitteePat said that she is now an official member of the Committee. The Non-Motorized Committee is in favor of round-abouts on upper Sims Way. She made sure that the Committee has information about making round-abouts disability friendly. She also said that the bicycles on sidewalks issue is currently in limbo. Centrum Volunteer TrainingSue and Lynn provided training to Centrum staff and volunteers on how to assist people with disabilities. Sue will contact Centrum to make sure that the Centrum web site contains information on how to obtain accommodations at events. In addition, Sue will let them know that the web site needs to clarify that club venues in Port Townsend may or may not be accessible. Sue reported that she has joined the County Auditor’s Disability Access Committee for voting. She would like to encourage others with disabilities who may need the services of the County’s electronic voting machine (which does offer privacy) to join the Committee. The Committee will plan how to make the machine as widely available as possible. She will report at greater length after the first meeting in July. Susan Kinne reported that Washington has not applied for another cycle of funding from the Federal CDC. Therefore, hers and Tabbitha Harrison’s services as consultants to the DASH Project will be over at the end of June. Next meeting – Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:00 p.m., First Federal Savings. |
