Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Present: Pat Teal, Julie Duke, Bonnie Bolster, Marion Huxtable, Lynn Gressley

The minutes of the March meeting were approved

Public Access

Lynn and Marion reported on offering feedback to Mary Heather Ames regarding round about design issues. Lynn said that he got a much clearer idea of how pedestrians will move through the crosswalks but generally disdained the use of truncated domes to identify nearby crosswalks. Marion suggested that rumble strips be installed on Sims heading east from Mill Road in order to notify vehicles that a crosswalk is ahead. She believes that drivers will approach the first round about suddenly because of the hill and curve present after the Mill Road light.

Pat announced that the deadline for applying for membership on the Non-Motorized Transportation Board will probably extended since at present no one has applied.

Marion and Lynn agreed to contact John Watts to discuss the Court of Appeals decision affirming that every bicycle, no matter what surface it’s on, must have lights after dark. The question is whether this apparent equipment requirement is being enforced by the Port Townsend Police.

Event

At the time of the meeting we had six confirmed participants with the possibility of two more. Final planning has been completed and the Event is only one week away.

Other Business

The rest of the meeting was taken by guests Vi Conig, her husband and the owner of Vintage Hardware who expressed their views that the City’s proposed round abouts are dangerous for people with disabilities and other pedestrians.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 pm.

Next meeting, May 19, Noon to 2:00 in the Card Room of the Uptown Community Center. Following the May meeting, all future meetings will return to the second Tuesday at the Community Center.
