Committee Reports

Public Access

  • The committee assessed uptown asphalt “quick fix” curb amendments.  The committee found them to be quite accessible and thanks the city for doing this. 
  • Tyler Johnson has promised to work on the City Accessibility Map after April 15th.
  • As DASH is the sponsor for the Chamber of Commerce this month Pat needs someone to attend the April 17th meeting, which take place at Noon, at The Fort Worden Commons.  Nancy volunteered to attend.
  • Annod asked the committee to pursue with the Port Townsend Police Dept. exactly what it means to get extra disability parking spots for an event.  She recently tried doing this for an event and felt she did not get the extra spaces she had inquired about.

Education Committee

No report; as committee did not meet this month.

Event Planning Committee 

The Event will take place April 19th beginning at City Hall.  Reminder letters have gone out to participants and chaperones.  Leslie is able to help be a chaperone for the Event.  Emily Mendelbaum was suggested as a possible back-up volunteer.  Pat and Lesa met with Patrick Sullivan of the Port Townsend Leader and Jeff Chew of the Peninsula Daily News regarding newspaper coverage of the Event.  The Leader should be publishing 1x1½ ads beginning this week throughout the paper making statements about disability access.  Students from Port Townsend High School video class will be taping this years Event.  City Proclamation of April as Disability Awareness Month will be passed by the city council on April 17th.  Mark Welch will also have an article in the City Utility Bill Newsletter speaking about Disability Awareness Month.

Arts Enrichment Committee

  • P.T. Shorts will be running its Disability Awareness performances on PTTV throughout April.  The program can be seen Mon: Noon-1:30 pm/9 pm-10:30 pm, Wed. Noon-1:30 pm/6:30 pm-8:00pm, Sat. Noon-1:30 pm/6:30pm-8:00pm, Sun. 10-11:30pm. A motion was made by Lynn for DASH to pay no more than $50 for editing and filming services of the P.T. Shorts performances made for Disability Awareness Month.  Kaheya was the second and the motion passed unanimously. 
  • Annod noted that DASH is not mentioned in “Who’s Who in Jefferson County” an insert to the P.T. Leader.  Can we check into making ourselves known next year?
  • VSA Arts ADA training will be May 23rd-24th at Centrum in building #204.  A flier was passed around for the Board to peruse.  Dan Schmitt from VSA Arts would like to involve as many DASH Board members who are interested in being team leaders for this event.  The purpose of the project is to help look specifically at arts venues to assess if they are ADA compliant.  The Board decided to invite Dan to the next board meeting to speak about this training at what is needed if one chooses to volunteer.
  • There was a small audience at the Poetic Justice, Disability Awareness performance at the Unitarian Church.  It was noted $25 was raised in donations. 
  • Annod would like to write thank-you letters on behalf of DASH, to Centrum for their partnership in the ADA Workshop and to Key City Players for devoting the P.T. Shorts theme to Disability Awareness Month.

Transition Committee

Attorney Gloria Wakayama will be reviewing all 501 (c) 3 documents.  When she has finished her review and meeting of the committee will be set up.

Reports From Outside Committee Work

Governors Committee:

Kaheya reported that the next meeting would be April 24th.  In June the Committee will meet with local Native American Tribes.

Housing Authority:

Pat reported that the authority’s annual plan has been approved.  She also noted that the Residence Advisory Board met this month.

Transit:

Curtis was absent and Lynn stated that he might not be able to continue on the DASH board due to other conflicting commitments.  Lesa will get in touch with Curtis.  It was also noted that Curtis has been very involved on behalf of Jefferson Transit in providing transportation for this years Assume a Disability for a Day Event.

Other Announcements

  • Joannie passed out fliers to be place about town advertising the Poetic Justice Theater Troupe’s performance of “A Breath Away” which will be performed April 20th at the USO Building from 7-9 pm. 
  • The Goodwill store will be receiving a new electric scooter, thanks to the efforts of Annod.  This will be a pilot project for Goodwill of Tacoma.
