Disability Awareness Starts Here (DASH)Board of Directors Meeting Minutes February 12, 2008 Present: Bonnie Bolster, Pat Teal, Kaheya Cunningham, Kay Harper, Liz Rocha, Lynn Gressley The minutes of the January Board meeting were approved. Public Access Pat reported that Little and Little Construction Co. has a sample of new pervious concrete material designed for sidewalks and that the Access Committee will evaluate it before making a recommendation to the Non-Motorized Transportation Board. She also noted that Jefferson General Hospital has requested that DASH perform an evaluation of its facilities and programs for accessibility. Further discussion needs to be held with Hospital Administration to discuss the scope of this evaluation. One of the outcomes of the Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment Outreach meeting in Port Townsend was that Post Mistress Cindy Bryant agreed to work with DASH to make Post Office services more accessible. To that end, Bonnie presented a draft letter to Ms. Bryant requesting a meeting with us. The Board approved this draft and Lynn said it will be sent on DASH letterhead and Ms. Bryant will be invited to a meeting in the very near future. Fundraising/Treasury In the absence of the Treasurer, Lynn reported that DASH’s current account balance is $2,495 which includes a deposit from UGN for $65.36. Expenditures include Phone cost and $180 to reserve Reader Board space for April. Miscellaneous Activities Kaheya noted that DASH bus posters are not regularly being maintained on buses. Lynn agreed to bring this issue up before the Transit Citizen’s Advisory Committee be informed of this issue. Pat reported that a bill pending in the Legislature would increase fines for illegal parking in designated accessible parking places. The revenue is to go to advocacy organizations in each County. Pat suggested that such funds could go to the County Voter Accessibility Committee to be used for specific advocacy projects. Kaheya reported that Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) is willing to print DASH brochures. Lynn said that he would pass the master brochure document to them and we agreed to request placement on a light green paper. Event Committee Board approved giving Event Committee authority to expend funds specifically for this year’s April Event. Outside Committee Work Non-Motorized Transportation Board Pat reported that DASH will receive a copy of the official Plan Update once the City prepares it for review. Comment on this draft is important as it is a precursor to full public review. O3A Advisory Committee Kaheya said that she will give another disability presentation at next week’s meeting. She is attempting to get other counties interested in replicating DASH’s type of work. Meeting was adjourned at 1:50 pm. Next meeting, Tuesday, March 11, Noon to 2:00. |
